JUIDA INFO

Overview

From September 17 to 20, 2025, the Japan UAS Industrial Development Association (JUIDA) led a delegation of several Japanese drone-related companies on a visit to Taiwan. This mission was organized in the wake of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between JUIDA and Taiwan TEDIBOA at “Japan Drone 2025” held at Makuhari Messe in June 2025, with the aim of promoting the mutual development of the drone industries in both Japan and Taiwan.

Activities

The delegation centered its program on attending the Taiwan International Aerospace & Defense Technology Exhibition (TADTE 2025) in Taipei, while also visiting Taiwan’s leading research institute ITRI and several drone-related companies. As part of the official exhibition program, JUIDA Executive Director Kakuya Iwata delivered a keynote speech, presenting Japan–Taiwan industrial cooperation to an international audience.

At the exhibition, the delegation focused on the “Drone Zone,” gathering information on the latest industry trends and emerging technologies, and exchanging views on components and solutions aligned with the needs of Japanese companies. In addition, the delegation engaged with representatives from the United States, India, and other countries, gaining insights into global market trends and opportunities for collaboration.

During the visit to ITRI, participants toured advanced research facilities and gained an understanding of Taiwan’s research and development framework. Discussions with executives and researchers confirmed shared recognition of technological challenges and strategies for domestic development. Furthermore, at a series of networking events held throughout the week, active discussions were conducted on research, procurement, and applications. In particular, strong mutual interest was confirmed in application fields addressing social issues, such as disaster response and logistics.

Outcomes and Participant Feedback

A post-visit survey of participating companies revealed the following:

  • Objectives: The majority cited “understanding market trends,” “building local networks,” and “information gathering,” with approximately 60% also noting “exploring new procurement sources.”
  • Outcomes: Direct engagement with local companies and researchers, improved policy understanding, and exchanges among Japanese companies were highlighted as major achievements.
  • Satisfaction: All respondents reported very high satisfaction.
  • Future Requests: Diverse ideas were raised, including “study tours to advanced agricultural nations,” “market research in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe,” “exchange-type tours with local organizations,” and “expansion of business meeting opportunities.”

JUIDA’s Role

Through this mission, JUIDA played the following roles:

  • Creating concrete opportunities for parts procurement and technology exchange between Japanese and Taiwanese companies
  • Enabling participation in the international exhibition network, thereby supporting Japanese companies in accessing global markets
  • Providing a forum for discussions on applications in social issue–oriented fields such as disaster response and logistics

Outlook

JUIDA extends its sincere appreciation to all those who participated in this mission. Building on the outcomes achieved, JUIDA will continue to actively organize and provide opportunities for international exchange and cooperation, thereby contributing to the further development of the drone industry.
